The Rwanda National Police operating in Huye district has called on residents who own fenced homes to install outdoor lighting as a way to enhance community security, especially during nighttime hours.

This message was emphasized by the Huye district police commander, SP Augustin Habimana, following growing concerns from residents of Tumba Sector about insecurity after an armed gang attacked Berwa Village in Gitwa Cell, injuring three people.

SP Habimana urged every resident with a fenced compound or house to ensure that they install exterior lights, explaining that lighting helps security officers easily identify individuals who might engage in criminal activities.

“Lighting is one of the key tools for maintaining security, because when an area is well-lit, those intending to commit crimes usually hesitate,” said SP Habimana.

Security begins with the citizen. It’s important that we all work together to ensure our safety remains everyone’s responsibility,” said Mayor Sebutege.
