Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, emphasized that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) meeting serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, strengthening partnerships, and reinforcing the principles of quality standards in the global market.

He made the remarks on Monday, October 6, 2025, while officially opening the ISO General Assembly, being held in Kigali until October 10.

The Prime Minister welcomed over 1,200 participants from more than 160 countries across the world, encouraging them to take time to explore Kigali’s tourist attractions and emphasized that hosting such a major gathering demonstrates the collective commitment to advancing quality standards at the international level.

This is more than just a meeting,” he stressed. “It is a platform that brings together countries, ISO members, and other stakeholders to share knowledge, strengthen cooperation, and uphold the values of international market standards.” He stated.

The Prime Minister pointed out that common international standards promote cross-border trade, support local industries, and help align market demands with consumer needs.
Quality assurance must continue to be a cornerstone of sustainable development,” he said.

He further noted that quality assurance plays a crucial role in boosting trade, fostering innovation, addressing climate change, and providing practical solutions to global challenges.

Dr. Nsengiyumva underscored that Rwanda’s government has placed quality standards at the forefront of its development agenda. This approach has improved the quality of goods and services, attracted investment, and expanded Rwanda’s access to international markets.

RSB Director General, Raymond Murenzi, remarked:
Hosting ISO is an extraordinary opportunity. It allows us to discuss how to strengthen quality assurance nationwide and expand our markets regionally and globally.”

The Kigali assembly also launched a new initiative titled “Women and Youth in Quality Initiative”, aimed at empowering women and young people to participate in standards-based business and innovation.

As of today, Kigali is not only Rwanda’s capital but also the “capital of quality” in East Africa. Hosting ISO has elevated Rwanda’s image, positioning it not just as a developing nation but as one with a clear vision of building a sustainable, reliable, and inclusive economy that benefits all citizens.
