The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has released special guidelines governing business and tourism activities during the upcoming International Cycling Competition (UCI Road World Championships), which will take place in Rwanda this September 2025.
In a statement, RDB said the purpose of these guidelines is to help the country properly host athletes, officials, and visitors from different countries, while also ensuring the safety of citizens and road security during the competition.
RDB thanked Rwandans for their readiness to welcome the athletes and guests and called on both public institutions and private sector players to contribute actively to preparing hospitalityservicesand managing any changes that may affect road operations during the event.
To minimize unnecessary movements and ease the flow of the competition, specific directives have been introduced regarding business operating hours, compliance for service providers, and security measures.
According to RDB: Shops, both small and large businesses, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and fuel stations are encouraged to prepare in advance and open earlier than usual, in order to accommodate visitors. These businesses will be allowed to operate until 4:00 AM during the competition period, Businesses are also required to reduce noise levels and ensure the well-being of local residents, Existing laws, including those that prohibit excessive noise or disorderly conduct, will remain in effect, there is a strong emphasis on preventing the sale or distribution of alcohol to individuals under the age of 18. Vendors and service providers must refrain from selling or providing alcohol to minors.
RDB is also urging people to drink responsibly and avoid endangering public safety on roads. Visitors and spectators are reminded of the importance of not drinking and driving, as this can lead to road accidents.
The board emphasizes the need for proper implementation of these guidelines in collaboration with government institutions. RDB and other appointed authorities will monitor compliance, and those who fail to adhere will face legal consequences.
The key objectives of these efforts include: Facilitating the smooth hosting of high-profile guests attending the sporting event, Presenting Rwanda positively on the international stage, Ensuring the safety of cyclists, participants, and the general public, and reducing incidents related to noise, overcrowding, misuse of alcohol, or reckless driving.
RDB is calling on everyone private businesses, tourism service providers, visitors, and citizens to follow these guidelines, cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and safety, and promptly report any issues that arise.
Those who are found violating these guidelines will be held accountable, as respecting the law is essential to showcasing a positive image of both the event and the country.
