The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has released findings from its Seasonal Agricultural Survey for Season A 2026, highlighting notable changes in the production of major food crops compared to Season A 2025.

According to the report, several staple crops registered an increase in production, signaling positive trends in Rwanda’s agricultural sector. Cassava recorded the highest growth, with a 4.8% increase, followed by Irish potatoes at 3.3%. Sweet potatoes also showed a solid rise of 3%, while maize and vegetables each grew by 1.5%.

These increases suggest improved agricultural performance, potentially driven by favorable weather conditions, enhanced farming practices, and continued government support to the sector.

However, not all crops experienced growth. Bean production slightly declined by 0.5%, indicating challenges that may require targeted interventions. Beans are a key staple in Rwanda, and even a minor decrease could have implications for food security and household consumption.

Overall, the survey reflects a generally positive outlook for Rwanda’s agriculture, with most major crops showing resilience and growth. The slight drop in bean production underscores the need for continued monitoring and support to ensure balanced progress across all key food crops. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, farmers, and stakeholders in planning and strengthening agricultural strategies to sustain productivity and food security in the country.
