The center was established through a partnership between Hello Tractor and Heifer International, with the goal of making agricultural technology more accessible to farmers. A similar center already exists in Kayonza District, where 15 machines are currently supporting local farmers.
During the official launch of the Nyagatare center on Thursday, August 21st, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Telesphore Ndabamenye, reassured farmers that they should not worry about the cost of these machines, as the government has signed agreements with financial institutions to make them affordable.
“We want every farmer to have access to technology that helps them work efficiently, quickly, and with less physical effort. Those who thought this would be expensive can now relax, because we are working with BDF and other financial institutions to help farmers access and use these machines.” He stated.

To start with, the BDF (Business Development Fund) provided support worth Rwf 790 million to four farmers to help them begin using modern farming equipment.
Several farmers expressed their excitement about the initiative. Niyitegeka Olivier, from Karangazi Sector, said:
“I used to dream about this because working with only manual labor was very difficult. Having a center that brings us machines gives us hope that our yields will multiply. I thank the government and its partners.”
Another farmer shared:
“I used to harvest very little despite having large land because of fatigue and a lack of proper tools. But now, having access to modern machines will allow me to cultivate more land and greatly increase my yields. This will help improve our lives and support our families.”
Currently, Rwanda has about 250 farming machines in use nationwide. The launch of this center in Nyagatare is expected to significantly expand access, reduce the reliance on manual farming, and accelerate the country’s journey toward agricultural modernization.
