Some of the residents who were resettled in Kidendezi village, Kabazungu cell, Musanze sector in Musanze District have expressed gratitude to the unity government for treating all Rwandans equally and providing them with essential services.

Uwitonze Florida, a resident of Kidendezi, said she is happy to live in a country that responds to the needs of its citizens.

I’m one of those who were given land, and a large house was built for me. It includes a kitchen, a proper roof, and a toilet. I used to live in a one-room house where I had no space to rest or even host a visitor. But now when I look at this house I live in, sometimes I can’t believe I, Uwitonze, am the one living here.”

She added that the purpose of these houses was not for people to be idle in them, but rather to enable them to wake up early, go to work, and earn a living.

Twizerimana Diedonne, another resident from Bihinga village, also praised the government for building new houses for them after natural disasters destroyed their previous homes.

We used to suffer a lot. Whenever it rained, the water would enter our houses and sweep away our belongings. I was in a very bad condition, but now the unity government has resettled us in a good place. We’ve taken a big step forward. These houses are well-built, with glass windows and cemented floors, I feel like I’ve reached paradise.”

Minister of Emergency Management (MINEMA) Rtd Maj. Gen Albert Murasira, called on the beneficiaries to take good care of their new homes.

“It’s true these people were victims of disasters. But as always, our country puts the citizen first. When the President Paul Kagame visited Rubavu District, he promised to support those affected by disasters. Today, we have inaugurated 115 houses, and as you’ve seen, they are well-constructed and disaster resistant. We ask those moving in to leave behind their past worries and take good care of these homes.”

He further urged them to maintain their homes properly and remember why they were built, while also doing their part to prevent disasters.

The 115 houses, built for families affected by disasters in Musanze District, cost over 800 million Rwandan francs. They are now home to 460 residents, who were previously living in unsafe conditions.
