The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has reminded community patrol members in Nyanza District of their crucial role in preventing crime, urging them to uphold professionalism, integrity, and close collaboration with security agencies.
The message was delivered during an awareness campaign conducted by the Police in the Southern Province as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community participation in maintaining public security.
Community patrol members who attended the session said the initiative had helped reinforce their understanding of their responsibilities and improve cooperation with the Police and other authorities.
Etienne Nsanzimfura, a community patrol member from Busasamana Sector, said the awareness campaign had enhanced their knowledge of their duties.
“The campaign helps us better understand how we should conduct ourselves while carrying out our responsibilities and how to work effectively with other institutions to safeguard public security,” he said.
Claude Nshizirungu, another community patrol member, said regular awareness sessions encourage them to remain disciplined and committed to their work.
“These discussions help us better understand our responsibilities and improve the way we conduct patrols. They also strengthen our partnership with the Police and other institutions in preventing crime and protecting the community,” he said.
Speaking during the campaign, the Southern Province Police–Community Partnership Coordinator, Superintendent of Police (SP) Halima Nyirimpuhwe, urged community patrol members to remain professional and lead by example.
“Carry out your duties professionally, avoid any conduct that could lead you into criminal activities, and continue to be dependable partners of the Rwanda National Police in maintaining public security,” she said.

The Rwanda National Police spokesperson for the Southern Province, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hassan Kamanzi, said community patrol members remain key partners in crime prevention through timely information sharing.
“Community patrol members have an important responsibility in preventing and combating crime. We reminded them to continue working closely with the Police and other institutions by reporting information promptly and actively supporting crime prevention efforts,” he said.

Egide Bizimana, Executive Secretary of Busasamana Sector described community patrol members as indispensable partners in maintaining security, emphasizing the need for continuous training and awareness.
“Community patrols play a vital role in preventing crime. Awareness campaigns like this remind them of their responsibilities while encouraging those who may have fallen short of expected standards to improve their conduct,” he said.

The awareness campaign is part of ongoing initiatives by the Rwanda National Police across the Southern Province aimed at strengthening community policing and promoting collective responsibility in crime prevention.
