A report from the Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) indicates that rainfall recorded in the last days of April 2026 was lower than the typical levels usually observed during this period, which is normally characterized by heavy rains.

The report covers rainfall recorded between April 21 and April 30, 2026. According to Meteo Rwanda, rainfall decreased compared to the usual end-of-April patterns, except in some areas of the City of Kigali, parts of the Eastern Province, and districts including Karongi, Rutsiro, Nyaruguru, Burera, Kamonyi, Ruhango, and Nyanza, where relatively higher rainfall was observed.

The highest rainfall amount, 129.2 mm, was recorded at Nyamata station in Bugesera District (Eastern Province), while the lowest, 31.7 mm, was recorded at Kamembe station in Rusizi District (Western Province).

Meteo Rwanda also reported a significant increase in both maximum and minimum temperatures across many parts of the country compared to previous periods.

Average maximum temperatures ranged from 19.2°C recorded at Kinigi station in Musanze District (Northern Province) to 30.1°C at Bugarama station in Rusizi District (Western Province). Meanwhile, average minimum temperatures ranged from 13.2°C at Busogo station in Musanze District to 21°C at Bugarama station in Rusizi District.

Looking ahead, Meteo Rwanda forecasts near-normal rainfall for the first ten days of May 2026 (May 1–10). Rainfall across the country is expected to range between 28 mm and 105 mm, which is within the usual average for this period.

Farmers are encouraged to continue monitoring weather updates and consult agricultural extension officers while carrying out Season B farming activities such as weeding, fertilizing, and taking preventive measures against potential risks from rainfall, strong winds, and lightning expected in different parts of the country.

Livestock farmers are also advised to seek guidance from veterinarians on how to protect their animals in line with the expected weather conditions.
