Government of Rwanda has the goal of planting more than 65 million of trees as part of this year tree planting season, nevertheless 60% of planted trees fade before its growth.
The Prime Minister Dr Justin Nsengiyumva reminded people to protect the trees planted to be able to preserve the nature “As Rwandans we plant more trees but 60% of it fade before they grow, people in charge of forest, environment and agriculture should help us so that these planted trees don’t degrade.”” He said this during Umuganda of this Saturday 25th October 2025.
The Minister also added that, the government of Rwanda request citizens to cultivate every cultivatable land and use fertilizers so that the country can reach the target of 50% of increase in agricultural production, and never forget to plant trees in farms to protect it from erosion.
“A tree is like a child, it must be protected by everybody, because it benefits us, for instance the air we breathe. It is my tree, your tree, we must take it as our property. “He stated.

As Rwanda officially kicked off 2024-2025 annual tree planting season, which has a theme of”plant tree ,nurture it ,save the planet“,the Minister of environment Dr Valentine Uwamaliya invited Rwandans to participate in that journey “Today we are planting more than just a tree ,we are planting hope ,this initiative is a testament to our shared responsibility in fighting climate change ,each of us has a part to play”she said this during the ceremony of starting 2024-2025 tree planting season.
The global analysis studies and satellite data done by University of Maryland’s global land analysis and discovery lab indicates that in 2024 there have been a significant loss of old-growth forests and a global trend of rising tree mortality rates, therefore it is everybody’s responsibility to protect the trees.
